The Lifeboat: relaunched
If you’re new to Shire or to The Lifeboat, you won’t know what’s been going on behind the scenes for the last few months. So here’s your quick potted history!
Following a super challenging 2020 (I mean, who didn’t have a super challenging 2020), the former manager of the Lifeboat took the difficult decision to shut up shop and close the pub, which is run by admiral Taverns, in November.
With the pub building under threat, a group of nine local friends got together and started making plans to turn their local pub into THEIR OWN local pub. An initial lease was signed, and Jonny Golder Jnr, John Golder, Martin Ackerman, Bob Hone, Chris Jakeways, George Ralph, Paul Clarke, Julian Stevens and Jerry Male then joined forces (and pulled in literally all the favours ever in the history of favourdom) to get the job done.
The result is not just a brand new pub for Shirehampton’s High Street. It’s a testament to the power of friendship, community and collaboration. Oh, and to not giving up, even when all anyone wants to do is down tools forever and forget that fateful night when relaunching the Lifeboat seemed like a good idea.
